Biography

Miguel Lombardo

“My work is about situations which welcome humanity in our times. Since the end of last century I have been interested in light and the experiences of the human being around the sense of exploring space and time. Those experiences in which we could feel the presence of intrinsic values that seems to be there, but we haven’t seen yet”.

Miguel Lombardo multidisciplinary conceptual artist, curator and advisor for brands, institutions and art or cultural projects. Has been involved for the last 22 years, both locally and internationally with contemporary art projects and brand consulting. As founder-director and curator of Casasola (the first public-independent exhibition space with an educational and non-profit purpose in Panama, Lombardo managed to promote the concept of free access to art under a voluntary donation policy. He has led and curated multi-sensory exhibition projects with an important experiential design component to unite people of all ages, with the world in the need of change through art. Together with Maylin Pérez P. (cuban curator, based between Netherlands and Panama) Lombardo created and lead Casasola’s International Connection Program, whose mission was to connect international artists, curators or scientists and invite them to find other or new ways of addressing global situations together with local communities. The main objective of the program was: to awaken through art a more conscious thought, which could stimulate a collective reflection on those situations that humanity welcomes in our times.

As part of the framework of the 500 years of the city of Panama (celebrated in 2019), Miguel Lombardo was hired by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as an advisor, curator and creative for the concept and experiential design of the Museum of Panama City (MuCPa). He formed part of the advisory team for the commission of the V Centennial of the city, for the development of the brand contest of the 500 years of the city (managed as part of the program of the Mayor’s Office of Panama). His contributions also included the conceptual proposal, the curatorial aspects and naming for the Museum of the City (MuCPa). Within his curatorship, he included one of his artistic installations “Barbería 500”, whose experiential design component was developed with the aim of initiating a dialogue between contemporary art and citizen participation, to rescue the historical memory that would be part of the resources from the Museum of the City of Panama.

In addition, for the last 16 years, Lombardo has been responsible for convening and facilitating multidisciplinary teams to advise, create and promote international brands through art and culture integration strategies. His creative approach reaches a deeper understanding, which allows him to help organizations, companies and private art collectors, build emotional and powerful projects or collections with a social responsibility that increases the understanding of the project in the public. He has also assisted in guiding and mentoring young emerging artist in their quest to reach an international level.
